Colo-Colo proved that they are the most dominant club in Chile, after claiming the Clausura Championship with a 3-1 victory over Palestino. It was Colo Colo’s 28th title triumph, and their fifth of the past six seasons.
The Chilean giants, who drew 1-1 in the first leg, won the match courtesy of goals from Lucas Barrios (27′), Daud Gazale (51′) and Rodrigo Millar (61′). While Luis Pavez had drawn the visitors level in the 37th minute.
From the kick-off there was only ever going to be one winner. Colo Colo piled heavy pressure on their opponents early on, and they went ahead in the 27th minute through Argentine striker Lucas Barrios. It was his 37th goal of 2008.
But from the run of play, Palestino hit back in the 37th minute after Luis Pavez headed in from a corner-kick.
However, Colo Colo picked up their game in the second half, and they ended up winning the match with goals from Daud Gazale in the 51st minute, and another from Rodrigo Millar in the 61st minute.
Jean Paul Pineda reduced Palestino down to ten men in the 74th minute after a violent tackle, as wild celebrations erupted in the terraces.
